Sam Fender has given the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to protect the Britain's independent music venues.

The star was awarded the prize on mid-October as his new release his work was named the outstanding release of the past year.

Fender has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"I would not have achieved what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – approximately 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists like Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help 38 small stages across the UK.

The donation assisted spaces that were dealing with imminent closure due to issues stemming from flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces were granted funding support in modernizing amenities and gear that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.

"The notion that revenue from performances in big venues helps the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," the star has stated.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their winnings to the community center that supported their group, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally 1994 winners they gave their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was diagnosed the illness.

"The victory was sufficient," stated singer Heather Small. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our success touched another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had saved a couple of local spots in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

The Joiners in Southampton and the second in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition scheme, which is supported by the arts council and supporters who acquire "shares" in the buildings.
